HSE consultation on amendments to RIDDOR

The Health and Safety Executive are consulting on proposals to amend The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995  (RIDDOR).

RIDDOR places a legal duty on employers, the self employed and persons in control of premises, to report work related deaths, major injuries or over three day minor injuries, work related diseases and dangerous occurrences (otherwise known as near-misses).

The proposed amendment to RIDDOR is to extend the need to report a minor injury from the current over three days absence from work, to over seven days absence.

This change is aimed to coincide with the requirement for individuals to obtain a fit note from their GP if they expect to be absent for more than a week.

However, construction is a "High Risk" industry and many construction organisations and companies are strongly opposing the change to the construction sector, even if the amendments are applied to other industries.
