Petworth Police Station
Listed building refurbishment of basement and two floors of this existing building to create new office accommodation for the Sussex Police Authority.
The work was carried out under strict controls of archaeological authorities.
In front of the refurbished offices a new build steel framed single storey facility was constructed as the public reception area, call centre and further administrative offices, which was then connected by a glazed walkway to the listed building at the rear.
St Mary's Church, Broadwater
This latest phase at this Grade 1 listed church consisted of further reordering works including a new stone floor to the church using the “Jupiter” replacement flooring system with underfloor heating.
The project involved the updating and alterations of the existing church Nave, removal of Victorian pews, replacement of tiled floor, demolition and reconstruction of the dais together with new lighting and AV and ancillary works within the Church.
The fossil (see photograph) in one of the new floor tiles is an added feature being over 3000 years old.
St Margarets Church, Angmering
Recipient of the RIBA Downland Prize September 2009. A sensitive extension and refurbishment of this Grade 2 Listed church in the village of Angmering, West Sussex. Prior to commencement of the new works, the pews were removed and the old wooden church floor was completely taken up.
The main element of the project was to build two new extensions to either side of the entrance to match the existing stone church. This was to provide a new meeting room and office to the Northern side and a new entrance to the Gratwicke Chapel on the Southern side.
Also included in the works were a full immersion baptistry, a new raised floor with underfloor heating to the entire church, new M&E improvements with audio visual systems and timber treatments where necessary. The whole installation to be fully DDA compliant.
There were a few surprises that the client and combined team had to deal with during the works including the unearthing of a child’s coffins under the old floor, and the discovery of an unknown tunnel and crypt.
